From soybean to textured soy protein

The soybean is one of the world’s most important crops. A legume with exceptional nutritional value and high protein, it is known as the “king of plant proteins”. First grown in East Asia thousands of years ago, it is one of the main protein sources for the food and animal-feed industries.

Soy is grown in warm and temperate regions; Brazil, the United States, Argentina, China and India are among its largest producers.

  1. 1

    Growing & harvest

Soybeans are grown on farms and harvested once fully ripe.

  2. 2

    Oil extraction

After the oil is extracted, the bean becomes a high-protein material called soybean meal.

  3. 3

    Soy flour

After preparation, the soybean meal is turned into soy flour.

  4. 4

    Extrusion

In the extruder, controlled pressure, heat and moisture turn soy flour into textured soy protein.
